RESIDENTS who want to replace grass verges and trees with their own cars look set to be disappointed.

A petition signed by 39 residents from 31 homes in Roe Lee Park, Blackburn, says the road is narrow and people have to park on the road, reducing it to one lane.

The situation is worsened by people using the park, and emergency services and refuse lorries find it difficult to get down the road.

Residents want the verge and trees from numbers 1 to 71 replaced by parking bays, Blackburn Council's housing committee will be told on Tuesday.

The council's development services department has already said it had no cash available, and passed the matter to the housing department, which also says it has no money for such works.

A report to councillors says the council is sympathetic to the residents' needs.

But it adds that such types of work are not a high priority compared to the many needs across the borough for internal and external improvements on estates.
