THE TEENAGE parents of a five-month-old baby boy were still being interviewed by detectives today more than 40 hours after the child was found dead from head injuries.

Christopher Rose, 19, and his partner, Kelly Catlow, 18, were arrested after the youngster was found to be dead on arrival at Burnley General Hospital on Saturday afternoon.

The couple are the parents of Levi, the boy who died, his twin sister Sasha and their brother, Sebastian, aged about 18 months.

A murder-style inquiry was launched when the badly injured baby was found at the family's new home in Cronkshaw Street, Burnley.

The infant was taken to Burnley General Hospital but found to have already died from what police say appear to be non accidental head injuries.

The family moved into a terraced house in Cronkshaw Street only about three months ago and are thought to be from the Accrington area. Neighbours on the quiet street bordering the Daneshouse area of town were shocked by the tragedy.

They said the first they realised anything was wrong was when police arrived in numbers at No 5 during mid afternoon on Saturday.

Officers kept up an around the clock presence both at the front and back of the house while scenes of crime and forensic experts carried out investigations.

Det Supt John Debicki was called in to head the inquiry.

He would say only that at 4pm on Saturday a five-month old male child from Cronkshaw Street, Burnley, was taken to Burnley General Hospital and found to be dead on arrival. A post mortem examination was carried out by pathologist, Dr John Rutherford, who gave the cause of death as head injuries which appeared to be non accidental.

He said two people, a male and a female, were being interviewed at Burnley police station.

Next door but one neighbour, Russell Matthews, 26, said the family of a young man, woman, baby twins and an older boy had moved into the house about three months ago.

He said: "They seem a sound couple. I don't know their names although we speak when we meet on the street.

Mrs Renee Riley, who lives further along the street, said: "No-one knows what has happened although there are all kinds of rumours.

"It is terrible that a baby has died. I have seen the mum taking the twins out in a pram.

"We all speak to each other on the street but we keep pretty much to ourselves. They have not been here long and seem a normal quiet couple who keep themselves to themselves.''
