JONATHAN Harvey set his season alight with a stunning display of aggressive batting as Earby ripped Baxenden apart in the Vaux Ribblesdale League.

The Applegarth professional re-wrote the record books as he smashed his way to 184, an innings which included 18 sixes and eight fours. He hammered John Capstick for five sixes in one over and just failed to make it a full house, having to settle for a single off the last ball.

But the 31 runs set a new record for the most runs in an over, and his second-wicket partnership of 234 with Nigel Pickles (80), was also a new league record. His personal total puts Harvey in third place in the league's all-time biggest innings list.

Shell-shocked Baxenden were dismissed for 56.

Read kept their place at the top of the table as professional Shahid Nawaz rattled up 77 and took five for 75, with Gurinder Singh scoring 70 for Ribblesdale Wanderers.

Oswaldtwistle took seven points from Padiham as Neil Barnes (70) and Gerrard Metcalfe (47) set a total of 181-7. Pete Gardiner captured six for 33 as Padiham were dismissed for 109.

Settle's last pair survived 14 overs with a stone wall defence at Barnoldswick as they hung on to deny the Victory Park club maximum points. Paul Ridgeway took five for 67 as Barnoldswick made 168-9, James Peterson hit back with 6-30, but could not dislodge the final partnership.

Chris Killen and Paul Allen took five wickets each as Great Harwood dismissed Cherry Tree for 133. Harwood cruised to a six-wicket win. David Jefferson scored 54 for Blackburn Northern as his side reached 188-6 and Jeff Hacking followed up with five for 50 to bowl Edenfield out for 139.

Whalley are still without a point after Mick Dewhurst took five for 12 to leave them on 100-9, giving Clitheroe a comfortable nine-wicket win.

After their humiliation in the league, Baxenden pushed Earby all the way in the Ramsbottom Cup. The Applegarth side failed to rediscover Saturday's batting form, and only three sixes off the final three balls of their innings from Andrew Pickles saved the day. Baxenden were just seven runs short of victory, after Mark Rishton scored 73, when they ran out of time. Great Harwood made light work of beating Settle with Andy McNicholas 84 and Chris Killen 53 as they set a 247 total. The Dales side were dismissed for 146.

Barnoldswick beat Ribblesdale Wanderers with Victory Park professional James Peterson scoring 56. Read also go into the semi-finals after receiving a bye.
