POLICE investigating the death of a resident at a Ribble Valley nursing home after a morphine overdose are to take no further action against a nurse and a pharmacist.
Widow Mrs Bessie Aspin, 79, who lived at Riverside Court Nursing Home in Sawley, is thought to have died after she was mistakenly given a lethal dose of the painkilling drug as she was being treated for cancer.
Detectives probing the incident passed on the results of their inquiries to the Crown Prosecution Service. An inquest into Mrs Aspin's death was adjourned until all investigations were completed.
Detective Inspector Clive Tattum said: "The CPS have decided that no further action will be taken against either of the two people involved in this incident."
A spokesman for the nursing home said: "Staff followed correct procedure following the unfortunate and unexpected death of a patient.
"The police have completed a full investigation and the home has been inspected by the relevant inspection and registration authorities.
"We continue to offer a very high standard of professional care for the elderly and no member of staff has been charged with any offence."
