ELECTRONICS giant Philips announced a £6 million investment in the Mullard TV tube at Simonstone.

The cash injection was made to finance changes at the plant which would enable it to produce the new flatter squarer tubes which were being used in the latest TV sets.

Although the investment did not create new jobs, it was signalled as a vote of confidence in East Lancashire.
