ALL three East Lancashire competitors in the Amateur Championship at Turnberry failed to make the matchplay stage which started today.
Clitheroe's Stuart Andrew and Paul Dwyer came within two shots and three respectively with two-round totals of 153 and 154.
Andrew in particular made a late charge for survival with a second round 74 over the Arran course to go with his first round 79 but it was not enough.
Irish undertaker Jody Fanagan, who holed the winning putt for Great Britain and Ireland in the Walker Cup at Royal Porthcawl last September, led the way on 138 (72 and 66).
He was joined by the manager of a pub in Kenilworth, Warren Bladon, whose 2, 3, 4, 3 finish was as spectacular as has ever been seen over the Ailsa course.
Nelson's NIck Uttley needed something similar after a first round 80 but he could only improve by one shot with a 79 for an aggregate of 159.
After a promising opening round of 76, Dwyer fell to a 78 yesterday on Ailsa.
