DETECTIVES are hoping to track down a man who posed as a double glazing salesman to con a woman in her 80s out of £140.
The callous trickster, who claimed to be working for ICI, called at the pensioner's home in Hermitage Street, Rishton, on Monday lunchtime.
He told his victim he would be returning to instal new windows and asked for the cash to pay for materials.
The man was wearing a uniform and was also carrying a clipboard which contained papers and a photograph.
Detective Inspector Jim Oldcorn, head of Accrington CID, said: "Although this lady was left upset and confused by this nasty experience she has still been able to give us a detailed description of the offender.
"Once again I would urge residents to always ask for full identification if a stranger calls at their home.
"If anybody is in any doubt they can always call the police and we will be only to happy to check if the caller is genuine or not."
The thief is white, in his late 20s, 5ft 7in, slim, clean shaven and has short-cropped mousey hair.
The man, who spoke with a local accent, had a gold earring in his left ear and was wearing grey and blue clothing.
