COUN Reg Goggin (Letters, May 29) has been getting hot under the collar over a concerned council tax payer's opposition to the buying and flying of the Pakistani flag over Accrington town hall.
He would serve the community better if he could find out why it is illegal to fly the Union Jack in some parts of our country because such an act contravenes planning regulations.
Pakistan (then part of India) wanted, and was rightly given, independence from the British in 1947. I admire Pakistani patriots, but Accrington is part of England.
If two flags are to be flown over the town hall, let them be the Union Jack and the flag of St George. Is that too much to ask?
BERT HARDWICK, Warner Street, Accrington.
