THE vandals who smashed 240 windows at Roman Road primary school, Blackburn, went about their sickening work on a Saturday afternoon in broad daylight. It took a fair amount of time to put in all those windows. But, apparently, no-one bothered to report the matter to the police, even though the noise would be considerable.
There must have been dozens of people in the area. They weren't all watching Euro 96.
A few years ago half the street would turn out if a small boy misdirected his football through a window.
Now, it appears, no-one wants to know when vandalism on such a huge scale is taking place.
The mindless louts responsible for this act of wanton destruction put the school in serious trouble. Damage is estimated at £3,000 and the school's annual budget for repairs is only £4,000.
In one Saturday afternoon spree they more or less wiped out the repair budget for the year. And no-one wanted to know. It is a sad reflection on the public 's attitude to law and order.
