READERS may be aware of the wide-screen format which the TV people intend to introduce as a "new" experience.
In fact, it was first brought in by the film industry many years ago and was great for the large cinema.
But I do not consider it practical for television and complained strongly about "letter box" pictures being broadcast. I want a full and proper picture on my screen.
However, it would appear viewers have to take it or leave it - and if we do not want the letter-box effect, we will have to buy new wide-screen TV sets. I am curious about what others think about this matter and if they think there should be a control on all TV sets to allow viewers to choose which format they prefer.
