training places for 150 unemployed adults should be available soon. The Government has announced funding worth £283,000 to ELTEC to provide basic skills training for the jobless under a pilot scheme.

ELTEC has now selected four training providers - LE Training, Training 2000, Pendle Training and Accrington & Rossendale College's training services division.

"We already provide programmes under the Training for Work initiative but there have been difficulties in recruiting people with additional learning difficulties," said Mr Abdus Wadee, operations manager at ELTEC.

"These new schemes will bring them up to speed with people on Training for Work which is aimed more at occupational skills."
