BAXENDEN Chemicals is expanding its operations in the Far East after negotiating a licensing deal with an Indian company.

The East Lancashire firm has signed an agreement allowing Bombay-based Hindustan Organic Chemicals to use its technology in the manufacture of polyurethane foam products, adhesives and coatings.

HOC is an Indian government enterprise and a new plant is currently under construction at Rasayani to produce the licensed products from early next year.

Baxenden Chemicals' managing director Alan Taylor said the firm was delighted with the agreement.

"We have been seeking a partner in the Indian region for some time and are confident that our link-up with HOC will be beneficial for both parties.

"HOC's announced intention to build a plant in India will further enhance its position in polyurethanes, making the company a real force to be reckoned with in the future."

Baxenden Chemicals is owned by the American Witco Corporation and Croda International plc.
