SHEILA BRENNAN (Letters, April 25) claims that medical experiments on animals are wrong, but I've no doubt that, if it were her own life on the line, she would change her opinion - or would she rather die?

Unfortunately, medical treatments don't appear out of thin air and it's a known fact that more than one third of human and animal medicines are exactly the same.

I think it's no accident that the majority of people who support the animals rights are perfectly healthy because, when faced with their own mortality, most activists will not practise what they preach and refuse a life-saving treatment - which makes their stance against animal research look very hypocritical.

People with serious illnesses should be united in defending their right to hope from the animal rights bandwagon because they're the real losers in this debate.
