BURNLEY are chasing a Premiership defender as Turf Moor chief Adrian Heath steps up his search for fresh talent.
The unamed star has had preliminary discussions with Clarets manager Adrian Heath and could travel to Turf Moor this week.
Heath has at least THREE targets under the spotlight and revealed today: "I will be having discussions with a view to bringing a player in.
"It is mainly a question of letting people know what we are looking for and checking on the availability of different players.
"I do not want to reveal any names at this stage because I am conscious that could alert other clubs.
"The player is keen to come up and see what we have to offer, but I can't really move further until I speak with his manager."
Heath has confirmed he has already spoken to Wales international Jeremy Goss and will hold further talks once he returns from holiday on Friday.
Meanwhile, I can reveal the Croatian international under the Burnley spotlight is NOT part of the current Euro' 96 squad.
The Croat star, who plays in the Spanish League, could have made the final Croatian 22.
But he was injured towards the end of last season and missed out on his opportunity to feature in Miroslav Blazevic's squad.
Heath has studied videos of the player in action and could make a move next month to try and tempt him over to England for the start of pre-season training at Gawthorpe.
Revealed Heath: "I am keeping very close tabs on the situation. Obviously I have a number of contacts in Spain. They know what is happening here and what we are trying to do.
"I am sure in my own mind of what we need before next season and, like everyone else, I am busily pursuing a number of avenues."
FORMER Clarets manager Jimmy Mullen was back in the frame for the vacant manager's job at third division Scarborough today. The Scarborough board will interview Mullen tomorrow after Dave Hodgson and John Ward both rejected the post last week."
Mullen now appears favourite to land the post four months after his departure from Turf Moor.
