ONE of Leigh's charity stalwarts has died suddenly at the age of 72.
Eunice Hitchen had been the backbone of the Wigan Hospice Leigh branch for the past nine years, having also served as Chairman of the Leigh fund-raising committee.
She died on Friday evening after working in the Bradshawgate shop during the day.
Eunice, who leaves a husband Vernon, was a tireless charity worker who also served on the Hospice Council.
Stuart Liptrot of Wigan Hospice said: "I was really shocked and saddened when I received news of Eunice's death on Friday night, because I had spoken to her during the day. She will definitely be sadly missed by everyone who knew her, and our sympathies go out to her family."
Eunice lived at Cemetery House, Manchester Road, Leigh.
