A HEADTEACHER has slammed the mindless vandals who left her school 'knee deep' in glass and ran up a a repair bill of £6,000 during a sickening, hour-long window smashing spree.
More than 250 windows were shattered during the daylight attack on Roman Road School in Blackburn.
Shocked staff were forced to turn children away for two days as workmen began picking up the pieces of the devastation.
"I have worked on this estate for 20 years and this is by far the worst example of vandalism I have ever seen," said headteacher Liz Fisher.
"The school was left virtually knee deep in broken glass - we are totally sickened by this vicious attack."
Police are investigating the incident which is thought to have taken place between 4pm and 5pm on Saturday afternoon. They are calling on the public to come forward with information.
Crime prevention officer Alan Holt commented: "We would be grateful to hear from anybody with information about those responsible for this crime. All information will be treated in the strictest confidence."
Mrs Fisher added: "The whole community has pulled together to help us at this low point. I want to thank teachers and staff for all their efforts."
Blackburn police can be contacted on 01254 51212.
