ARMED robbers handcuffed and gagged the manager of Yates' Wine Lodge in Preston before forcing him to hand over the keys to his safe - and making off with its contents.
David Robertson was alone in his flat above the bar on Sunday night when he was confronted by two masked men.
Police say the pair, who were carrying guns, pushed him to the floor and threatened to shoot him.
They then dragged Mr Robertson into a bedroom where they tied his ankles together and held a pillow over his face.
Det Insp Justin Felice of Preston Police said: "It was a particularly violent attack. They hit him - we think it was with a gun - and he was left with bruising to his face.
"He was in fear for his life because they were threatening him with the guns.
"He eventually gave them the safe keys and de-activated the alarm. They stole a quantity of cash and made good their escape."
The robbery happened at around 11pm on Sunday. Both of the attackers were white and wore dark clothing, including tight-fitting ski-masks. One was about 5ft 9ins tall, medium build and spoke with a local accent. The other was 5ft, medium build and spoke with a slight Liverpool accent.
Police are appealing for anyone to come forward who saw anything suspicious near the Church Street pub on Sunday night around closing time. If you have any information call 203203.
