TWO police officers who rescued a man from his blazing home have received bravery awards.
Early on Sunday last October 1 PCs Nicola Wignall and Paul Creig were told of the house fire in Cutler Lane, Stacksteads.
They found the front door in flames and went to the back, forced the rear door and even though the entire house was full of thick smoke they went in.
PC Creig found a man asleep in bed. He dragged him from the bedroom and then with the help of PC Wignall got him downstairs and out of the house.
PC Creig then went back in to search all bedrooms to make sure there was no-one else trapped inside.
The two officers have been presented with the Roland Cree McGowan Cup and letters of commendation from the Liverpool Shipwreck and Humane Society.
The cup is presented annually by Tom and Barbara McGowan, whose son Roland, a Bacup PC, died in a road accident on duty in 1978.
