TWELVE trees will have to be planted in the grounds of Burnley College as a condition of planning permission for a new entrance.
Burnley Council's planning and environment committee were told that seven trees would be lost as a result of improved vehicle access to parking areas.
And the college had not kept a promise to replace three trees felled when earlier work was carried out.
Planning officer David Ellis said the college had no legal obligation to replace the three trees but had promised to do so at the time.
They were now offering to plant them as part of the Forest of Burnley project but on a site away from Burnley College.
Chairman Coun John Greenwood said that was not acceptable and a condition of the new planning permission ought to be that twelve trees were planted in the college grounds to replace the ones lost.
