ACCRINGTON Stanley are lining up a prestige pre-season friendly against FA Cup finalists Liverpool.
Stanley say they have had a "very positive" response from Anfield after they proposed the friendly fixture at the Crown Ground.
The Liverpool game would help to raise cash for Stanley's new stand and the fixture would be sure to guarantee a 2,000-plus crowd.
"I spoke to Sammy Lee yesterday and he was very hopeful that we could stage the game," explained Stanley's Director of Football Brent Peters.
"They can't give us a concrete date at present because the manager, Roy Evans, is on holiday.
"But I know Liverpool are looking at the fixture very favourably and they have said they would field a strong side if they can get a date on the fixture."
Accrington are holding trials at the Crown Ground on Monday (6.30 pm) for Stanley's Under-18 side. Manager Geoff Kimberley says all sixteen to eighteen year-olds footballers are welcome.
