COLIN Hendry (pictured) was today hoping for a massive favour from Blackburn Rovers colleague Alan Shearer.

The Scots refuse to give up hope of a dramatic quarter final Euro 96 qualification.

And Hendry believes their best chance is an England win over Holland as Group A reaches its tense climax tonight.

Should Scotland win their final group match against Switzerland at Villa Park, goal difference could decide the second-placed qualifier.

A determined Hendry said: "There are so many different permutations but we expect an England win to be the best for us.

"We need to score goals although we have not scored in the last three games, including Colombia.

"But sometimes we come through when the odds are stacked against us, although we often seem to react too late.

"At least we need to give our our supporters something to go home with," he added.

Kevin Gallacher faced further heartache although Craig Brown insists he won't be cavalier in his team selection.

But strikers Scott Booth (Aberdeen), Gordon Durie (Rangers), John Spencer (Chelsea) and Ally McCoist (Rangers) could all be asked at various stages to join the goals chase.

Both Hendry and Shearer will have an element of caution in the back of their minds having picked up cautions on Saturday at Wembley.

Another yellow card tonight would mean an automatic one-game ban in the quarter finals.

Hendry was disappointed with his caution against England for a tackle on Paul Ince from the same referee who dismissed the central defender when Rovers lost 3-0 in Moscow.
