A FAMILY of birds have left a farmer without wheels after building themselves an unusual mobile home - under the seat of his tractor.
Now Michael Gillet is hunting for an alternative vehicle in time for grass collecting because he is anxious not to damage the four recently-hatched chicks.
A male and female grey pied wagtails set up nest in Mr Gillet's David Brown vehicle several weeks ago and laid four eggs.
Mr Gillet, of King Bank Farm, Whinney Lane, Mellor, said: "I had been using the tractor all over the farm because I didn't realise the nest was there.
"Amazingly, the parents kept track of it and found iteverywhere I parked.
"But now the chicks have hatched I am worried that their parents will lose them and they might starve.
"Young birds are constantly hungry and I would hate to end up doing them some harm - even causing their deaths."
Anyone who can help Mr Gillett can phone him on 812075.
