A CONTRIBUTION of £500 has been given to the English Churches Housing Group to help the homeless in Leigh.
The money has been handed over to the Railway Road-based project by British Nuclear Fuels and Atomic Energy Authority staff from Risley.
The venture provides accommodation and support for upto 22 men and women who would otherwise be out on the streets.
Every resident has a lockable single room of their own, with access to communal kitchen, bathroom and lounge facilities.
Nicky Davey, Project Manager, said: "Railway Road isn't an institution like the old hostels, it's a place where people gain regain their self-confidence and aim towards living more independently in the community. This money will enable us to buy furniture to make the project more comfortable, more like home."
The cash was raised by BNFL and AEA staff through contributions to a charity fund it organises which runs a small weekly lottery with 50 percent of all money collected being donated to local charity and community projects.
