BLACKBURN community groups could lose out in the £4,000 cash windfall from this year's Citizen/Crown Paints Community Award scheme.

More than half the applications which have flooded into the Citizen office are from organisations in the Darwen area.

And time is running out to send in requests - there's just eight days to go before the June 28 closing date.

The award scheme is open to any community groups in Blackburn and Darwen which are not local branches of national charities or political parties. Organisations which received a grant last year are not eligible.
