POSTIES in Preston are unlikely to be working tomorrow (Friday June 19) due to a 24-hour strike to start at midnight tonight (Thursday June 20).
Workers at Royal Mail voted for industrial action after negotiations with managers failed to reach a settlement on pay and conditions.
The postal workers are asking for more money and a five day week but bosses claim the package they are offering guarantees better rates of weekly pay as well as a reduction of one and a half hours in the working week.
The two parties are continuing talks and the action could be called off as soon as an agreement is reached.
Director and general manager for Royal Mail Ken Barker said disruption would be kept to a minimum although it may be that mail may not be delivered until late on Saturday at the earliest.
A customer information line has been set up (0345-740-740) for up to date information on mail services.
