PEOPLE living in Barrowford are livid that a planned rock festival could be given the go-ahead without a thought for the neighbours.

The idea of a festival in a field off Pasture Lane infuriated local residents, and councillors say they cannot get to know who is behind the plan.

Neighbours complain it will be difficult to police, create immense problems of sanitation, generate enormous amounts of litter and be unacceptably noisy.

One resident, who didn't want to be named, said: "Who knows how many people will turn up. It could be 10,000.

"How can the police prevent undesirables from coming into the area? There will be those only too pleased to supply drugs.

"When the concert ends, is everyone going to go quietly on their way? Those high on drugs or alcohol could wreck havoc in Barrowford and Roughlee."

People in the area say they are extremely concerned about their homes and their own safety and say they want cast iron guarantees that if a festival takes place named insurers will guarantee to pay for damage and compensation.

Barrowford councillor Allan Vickerman said: "We have had no information at all about it, and at this stage no-one can say whether it should go ahead or not."
