LEIGH hit a dismal double at the weekend with a draw and a defeat against St Helens Recs and Sefton.
On Saturday St Helens piled on the runs to finally declare on 229-4 off 36 overs. Dave Potter was Leigh's best bowler taking 3-55.
In reply, Leigh got off to the worst possible start, losing Greg Dimery for 9, Steve Whalley for 6 and Dave Charlson for 4.
Clive Muir tried to pick up the tempo hitting two wonderful shots, the second a massive six through a team room window, before going for 10.
Skipper Dave Dove hit 57 with good support from Yasin 22 and Dave Potter 38.
The run rate was escalating and it was left to Paul Jones and Graham Duddle to bat out the draw at 170-9.
On Sunday Leigh narrowly lost out in a high-scoring Littlewoods Cup Second Round game against Sefton, who batted first and hit a massive 246-4 off 40 overs.
Leigh again got off to a poor start, losing Dimery and Muir with just 21 on the board.
Dove (75) and Whalley (88) tried to get Leigh back on course, but the Sefton total was always just out of their reach.
Colin Marshall hit a quickfire 25 leaving them on a creditable 220-7...26 runs behind.
