A HINDLEY-based packaging company has walked away with a top prize.
Leighton Packaging Ltd was born out of a love of rugby and home-grown pride.
The Platt Lane company, which manufactures corrugated cardboard boxes, was given the title Best Firm in the category for those employing six to 25 people in the prestigious Wigan and Leigh Business Awards 1996 event.
And managing director Phil Coffey explained: "As a lifelong supporter of Leigh Rugby League Club and a resident of Lowton, Leighton Packaging was the obvious choice as the name for our new company.
"The Wigan and Leigh Business Awards are keenly contested and the presentation ceremony was quite an event with an Oscar style announcement of winners.
"In view of the competition we faced, we feel privileged to have won a category."
