ATHERTON Swimming Club went back to BASICs to pay tribute to former member Katrina Andrews, 17, who died from a brain tumour in December.
The Brain & Spinal Injuries Charity (B.A.S.I.C.) was close to the heart of the Atherton swimmer, so her many friends at the club decided to honour her by staging a sponsored swim.
The aim of the event was for members of the club to collectively swim 101 miles in under three hours.
Among the swimmers were Katrina's father, Stephen, and her brother, Paul.
Atherton swimmers were also joined by representatives of Tyldesley and Howe Bridge Aces Swimming Clubs, who put local rivalry aside to support this good cause.
And the difficult target was achieved in just two hours and 45 minutes.
A magnificent £1,750 was raised, and this will be used to purchase vital medical equipment for the relief and treatment of patients suffering from brain tumours.
