A SCHEME to make parts of St Annes more accessible to disabled residents has been rewarded by Action For Better Access.
The Fylde pressure group has recognised months of hard work carried out by Lancashire County Council by presenting representatives with a special plaque.
The honour was one of several the county council received at ABAs' annual award ceremony at Blackpool's Norbreck Castle.
The St Annes project revolved around lowering kerbs in the area to make them more accessible to the whole community, from the disabled and elderly to pedestrians with pushchairs.
St Annes councillor Ann Smith commented: "I think it is extremely important we had this work done because St Annes has a large population of elderly and disabled people and it is our priority to meet their needs.
"I often receive requests from residents about such matters.
"The work carried out is not only for the benefit of the disabled. Lowering work is often commented on by many able-bodied people, who simply find it easier to get around."
Dennis Golden, chairman of the highways committee, who attended the ceremony, said: "The work is indicative of what the county council does for people with disabilities."
