ADRIAN HEATH is closing his Euro-transfer net on a SECOND target from Portugal.

The Clarets chief has revealed he has started negotiations with another Portuguese attacker four days after flying his first target over to England for transfer talks.

Heath confirmed: "I'm speaking to another player from Portugal and I'm hopeful we can get something sorted out.

"He is only a youngster, just 20, and another player with a lot of genuine pace and talent - a very exciting prospect and a team mate of my first target.

"I've spoken to the president of the club in question and he has given me permission to pursue it further. I will be doing just that over the next few days when I hope to make further progress. I'm led to believe that the fee would not be a big one."

Heath said he has had a 'very positive' response from his first Portuguese target. The tall striker spent last weekend visiting the Turf Moor facilities before returning to the continent on Sunday.

"We've spoken this week and I'm hopeful that I may be able to bring the player in for the start of the season," added Heath. "He wants to play for Burnley which, of course, is very important."

Heath, meanwhile, has warned England: "Beware of the Spanish threat."

The Turf Moor chief tipped Spain as one of the darkhorses for Euro '96 and says England face a mighty task to reach the semi-finals at Wembley in five days time.

"Tomorrow will be a lot more difficult than people are predicting," said Heath.

"Spain have the characteristics of an English side and are very, very strong physically.

"Terry Venables will be more aware than anybody about that but I believe it will be a very close match."

Heath worked under Spanish coach Javier Clemente during a spell with Espanol in the late eighties.

THE Auto Windscreens Shield tournament will have a new format next season. Much to the relief of many fans, the organisers have scrapped the drawn out preliminary group rounds after the fixtures attracted desperately poor gates.

The tournament-between third and fourth division teams-will be on a strictly knockout basis with the first games to be played in December.
