A RACE harmony campaign entitled Uniting Britain has been launched by Burnley and Pendle Racial Equality Council.
A sub-committee was elected to oversee a programme of action planned for this year.
The council needs support of people from all walks of life to support the campaign which was launched at the Nelson office when an open day to celebrate 20 years of the Race Relations Act was also held.
By August, the REC hopes to have sought financial help and commitment to the campaign from the public and private sector and by September multi-racial gatherings and inter-faith group meetings will be held.
It is planned to sponsor an essay competition for Burnley and Pendle high schools in October under the title Uniting Britain In a Multi-Racial Society.
