A FIRST London marathon for a fighting fit teacher raised a stunning £606 for the SuperScan Appeal.
Wendy Thompson, who takes Class 3 at Coal Clough Primary School, Burnley, who trained during the winter by running around 30 miles a week, finished the 26 miles and 385 yards course in a creditable 5 hours and 18 minutes.
She presented the cheque to Neil Beecham, Burnley committee chairman of the SuperScan Appeal.
"I used to take PE for a while and then when I reached 40, I thought it was time I did something for myself," she said.
"Running the marathon was exciting and the crowd was wonderful. They get you round.
"The weather on the day was really good and I had a T-shirt with my name on and everyone was cheering for me.
"At about 21 miles I thought what on earth am I doing here, but when you actually finish you are full of elation.
"All my class were supporting me too and we had talks about it in school. They said they didn't see me on television though."
She added: "I am still running and I think I would like to do it again sometime."
