A BLACKPOOL police officer was savagely attacked by a rottweiler as he took part in a drugs raid.

PC Christopher Lloyd was part of a six-man team from Blackpool drugs squad searching a house in George Street when he was bitten three times by the dog.

He could now face a month off work in order to recover from his injuries.

Detective Sergeant John Francis led the raid at 2pm on Monday (June 24) and said: "There were five people in the house and our officers were involved in a struggle in the kitchen with three men resisting arrest.

"Suddenly the rottweiler appeared behind us and bit PC Lloyd on the calf three times.

"It was a very nasty attack and he was immediately taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital for treatment."

PC Lloyd was released from hospital after receiving tetanus injections.

During the raid officers seized approximately £300 in cash and a substance believed to be heroin, with a street value of £2,200.

Two male residents from the house appeared before Blackpool magistrates court yesterday (June 26) for drug offences and their cases have been adjourned until July 3.

A woman, also of George Street, had her case adjourned until July 24.
