BLACKBURN Borough Council is to take action to stop a company from using Avondale Road in Darwen as an access route for works vehicles.
Weltonhurst Ltd was given permission to use the road at the rear of their Blackburn Road site for five months last June during the construction of a new roof.
But despite a number of warning letters to the blowmoulding business the route is still being used by company vehicles.
Councillors have now decided to serve an enforcement notice to close the access after residents submitted a petition. They objected to a new planning application by the company for a staff car park and open storage with access along their road for commercial and private vehicles.
The issue will be decided at the next meeting of the planning and highways committee in July.
Ten families living on Avondale Road were left facing an 8.5 metre high metal-clad wall, just six metres from their kitchen window, when Weltonhurst Ltd were mistakenly granted planning permission to nearly double the height of their roof. The householders are still waiting for compensation almost a year after the error was made. The council is waiting for the Secretary of State to give permission for the money to be released.
