AS CHILDREN across the country prepare for the annual summer holidays, for one young boy the end of his first year at school is a real milestone.

Little leukaemia victim Glenn Challenger's mum and dad are proudly preparing for their first parents' day at at St Peter's School in Blackburn.

Glenn's mum Sharron, of Witton, Blackburn, told the Citizen: "Doctors say he seems to be in the clear but it's too early to tell. He's doing really well at school and loves reading and writing.

"He's still small for his age and usually finishes last in games, but it's the taking part that counts. Glenn's made lots of friends and we're so pleased with the way his first year has gone."

Formed by Glenn's family, the Blackburn Friends of the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Trust have raised £52,000 in just three years - a feat to be celebrated at this year's annual fun day on July 6.

The fearless five-year-old, who still attends hospital every three weeks for treatment, will be guest of honour. Activities include a bouncy castle, games, wet sponge throwing, face painting and hair braiding.

"Glenn's getting really excited and everyone's welcome. It's our way of saying thanks to those who've supported us and I know Glenn will want everyone to be there," added Sharron.

The fun day will be held at St Peter's football ground off Queen Victoria Street in Mill Hill.
