SOME new faces look set to arrive at Burnley over the next couple of weeks - just in time to start pre-season training.

Manager Adrian Heath is hoping to give fans something to cheer about by bringing in three young foreign stars.

He's been chasing two Portuguese players and a German striker who played in the youth world cup, and it will be a real coup for Burnley if they decide to sign.

One of the Portuguese players, a big striker, has visited Turf Moor, and Heath says he is ready to start finalising a deal. The U21 star has a midfielder friend who may also fancy a move to England.

Ex-Norwich star Jeremy Goss and Oldham's Darren Beckford are also still considering a move to Burnley, while two of the club's out-of-contract players - Marlon Beresford and Gerry Harrison - are on the verge of signing new deals.

Heath's sweeping changes at Turf Moor will also affect his back-room staff, where either Andy King or John Ward could become his new number two, with Clive Middlemass possibly taking up a position as director of coaching.

Heath has been resting after an ankle operation which has put him back on track to start training with the rest of the team. Although unlikely to be a regular feature of the team, Heath would like to be fit so as to provide back-up for when players are injured or suspended.
