STEVE MILLS put in a great home performance as Astley & Tyldesley Cycle Speedway staged the Northern Individual Championships.
He won three of his four races to reach the final stages.
But the event was won by Tameside's Roger Farrell, retaining his veterans title, with Bury's John Whiting runner-up and Mills in third spot.
Tameside riders won all three categories with Geoff Farrell winning the youth title and Paul Ogden the seniors.
A & T youngsters beat Sandwell 79-69 in an entertaining encounter in the British League Combination.
On his debut, Gareth Oldfield top-scored for the home side on 12 points.
Unfortunately, A & T's shortage of seniors again showed as they went down 114-65 in the Division One match.
Phil Moreton was tops on 13 points, the day after helping Ireland to third place in a Home International in Suffolk.
Club recruitment and training nights are held every Wednesday (7-9pm) at Gin Pit. Newcomers are always welcome for a free trial, all equipment loaned free of charge.
