THE final student of the year at the footwear section of Accrington and Rossendale college was honoured at a special ceremony earlier this week.
Philip Walton, of Bacup, received his award from college principal Michael Austin along with a £75 prize donated by local firm E Sutton and Son, of Bacup.
The footwear section, based at the Rawtenstall centre, is to close this summer after 85 years of training local people to make high quality shoes.
The centre will be used by performing arts, film and media studies students from next September.
Other students receiving prizes were Anne Hesketh, of Blackburn, Lisa Morton, of Bacup, and Gerard Kearney from Nelson, who all received highly commended certificates.
John Gregson, of Waterfoot, won best slipper prize, Julian Fitton, of Burnley, best children's shoe, Philip McKee, from Darwen, best men's shoe and Mark Duerden, from Stacksteads, best ladies' shoe.
Course prizes went to Stephen Chapelhow, of Stacksteads, Tony Dobson, from Accrington, and Peter Duffy, of Clitheroe.
