DICING with death in the line of duty has earned two local bobbies a prestigious bravery award. DC Nina Parker-Peel, of Morecambe, and DC Wayne Nisbet, of Lancaster have scooped the coveted William Garnett Cup for the Lancashire Division - which goes to the officers who perform the most gallant deed of the year. They were singled out for their courage after being held at gun point on an investigation into a counterfeit currency operation in Lancaster.
DC Nisbet and DC Peel chased the offenders who were later arrested and received a three year jail sentence.
Chief Constable Pauline Clare said: "This was a courageous act by DC Peel and DC Nisbet as both officers were unarmed and displayed commitment and determination in their pursuit of the offender, beyond what could be reasonably expected from a police officer."
DC Nisbet, who joined the Lancashire constabulary in 1978, has already been twice commended by the chief constable during his career.
He said: "We were asked to arrest these people and that's what we did. At the time we weren't informed that they would be armed. We decided to give chase, it was a matter of pride. Of course I'm very proud to receive the award. "
DC Parker-Peel first started on foot patrol in Morecambe in 1988.
William Garnett, of Quernmore on the outskirts of Lancaster, died in 1929 and was praised for his work in Lancashire as well as his devotion to the Constabulary.
His son, Alderman William Garnett, donated the cup in memory of his father.
