A GRANDMOTHER from the Ribble Valley scaled the heights to raise money for charity!

Norah Proos reached 'peak' fitness for a gruelling two-day mountain climbing challenge as one of around 3,000 walkers who take part in a marathon hiking expedition for the Cystic Fibrosis fund.

Norah, 51, of West Bradford, is still nursing a few blisters and sore shoulders from back-packing after tackling the three-peak trek.

And though she feels a sense of achievement having completed the course of Snowdon, Scafell and Ben Nevis, she admits that she won't be doing it again!

Norah said: "I saw an article in the Lancashire Evening Telegraph inviting people to take part in the Three Peaks challenge for charity.

"I am not a very keen hiker though I do enjoy walking. But I wasn't prepared for the three peaks.

"We actually had to climb Scafell overnight to fit into the schedule, but the whole event was very well organised.

Norah, a sales administrator at Acme Refrigeration in Blackburn, raised over £200, thanks to the support of her family and friends.

She added: "I was going to go it alone, but then my daughter's boyfriend Michael Clarkson said he would take up the challenge with me.

"There were a lot of lone walkers and some horror stories about people having to be airlifted off the mountains."
