FIRE CREWS turned out to fires at blazes East Lancashire chemical works.
At Baxenden Chemicals, firemen had to wear special protective suits to deal with a blaze. When they arrived on the scene they did not know what chemicals they were dealing with. The fire was in the insulation of a large tank.
At Wolstenholmes Bronze Powders, Darwen, the emergency tender was used when a machine caught fire.
