KIM Rostron qualified for the matchplay stages of the British Women's Open Amateur Championship at Royal Liverpool, Hoylake with a second round 77 for a two-round total of 153.

The Clitheroe player met Lynn Tupholme in the last 64 today and was confident of making further progress in the tournament.

"I'm playing well at the moment and it's just a matter of maintaining my form and hopefully I can do well," she said.

Unlucky Natalie Evans from Pleasington missed the cut by a stroke when a second successive 80 gave her an overall total of 160.

Ireland's Eileen Rose Power overcame her disappointment at being left out of the Great Britain and Ireland side which beat the Americans at Killarney last weekend to lead the 64 qualifiers into the knock-out stages.
