With reference to your article 'Water company dig ups soon turn relief To grief' (LET, June 24), I would like to point out that, during the initial design stages for the improvement of Brownhill Roundabout, Lancashire County Council (on behalf of the Highways Agency), learning of North West water's long-term proposals, offered to replace the sewer under the new junction as part of the roadworks in order to minimise disruption to local residents and businesses.
It is understood the current proposals are part of North West Water's major re-sewering of the area, which could not have been phased into the roadworks to give a practical reduction in the extent of restrictions on Whalley New Road.
While I understand the concerns of the residents of this area who have already had major disruptions to their lives and businesses, as a County Council this is not our area of responsibility and I hope North West Water will deal with this major sewer renewal in an efficient and expedient manner.
The North West Water proposal does not, as reported in the Evening Telegraph, encroach on any of the works recently completed by the County Council.
