CLITHEROE'S Kim Rostron failed to gain a place in the last 16 of the British Women's Open Amateur Championship at Royal Liverpool, losing 4 and 3 to Scotland's Curtis Cup player Mhaire MacKay.

Rostron was one down after 11, double-bogeyed the 12th, bogeyed the 13th before MacKay eagled the 14th.

Rostron said: "I didn't putt quite so well as I could have."

In the earlier round, Rostron beat Lisa Tupholme of Northcliffe on the final hole.
