BLACKBURN Rovers are considering legal action against The Sun newspaper.
The move follows yesterday's reports that Alan Shearer is on the move to Manchester United in a £19m deal. Both clubs angrily rubbished the report, which claimed Andy Cole would come to Ewood in part exchange.
And Rovers were particularly furious that the reporter had failed to contact either club before publishing the story. Now Rovers have instructed their solicitors to look into a possible claim for damages.
The club is concerned that its public image has been tarnished.
And the damaging effect false that rumours of Shearer's departure could have on ticket sales is also to be considered.
Rovers also want to send a warning to other newspapers, angry that speculation and conjecture is often presented as fact.
