MUSIC teacher Neil Shepherd is hoping to start a Fame-style school for the performing arts in East Lancashire.
Neil, who lives in Great Harwood, is choirmaster and conductor of Ribble Valley and Hyndburn Youth choir.
He is appealing for teachers who would be interested in giving lessons in drama, theatre, dance, music, speech and foreign languages.
He said: "The idea would be to promote the arts among children and young people in East Lancashire, providing opportunities to take part in a wide range of activities. "The performing arts take a back seat in some schools. Some don't even have a choir. An arts school would give children and young people an opportunity to develop their talents."
Although many organisations have closed down for the summer months, his choir is continuing its regular Saturday afternoon meetings in Great Harwood.
It was formed last September with seven children and now has 20 members. Neil is hoping to recruit more members aged between eight and 16 for the start of the concert season in September.
The choir is already booked for two BBC radio recordings, a Christmas carol concert at Blackpool's Tower Ballroom and several visits to old people's homes.
Neil would be like to hear from anyone who wants to back his arts school idea or join the choir. He can be contacted on 01254 885358.
