SWAN At Whalley was yesterday beaten a length into second place by 2-1 favourite Silk Cottage in the Le Garcon D'Or Handicap at Musselburgh.
It's been a hectic week for 'Swan', owned by Capt Harry Barlow, landlord of the Swan Hotel, Whalley.
The four-year-old, trained by Martyn Wane at Richmond in Yorkshire, won well over course and distance just six days previous.
Last week's carefully laid plan to run in - and hopefully win - three races in three days before he was re-assessed by the handicapper, sadly fell flat when he refused to enter the stalls at Catterick.
Swan At Whalley subsequently passed a compulsory stalls test at Carlisle at the weekend, but again proved troublesome yesterday.
Once the barrier was open, however, 'Swan' went off like a rocket but was overhauled inside the final furlong.
The second placing brought a welcome consolation of £840 in prize money.
