A TERRIFIED woman has told how her house shuddered when it was hit by a car which hurtled out-of-control for 75 yards down a hill.
Ann Kernot said she thought there had been a gas explosion when the vehicle crashed into her home.
But when she looked out of her window, she saw a D-reg Rover car embedded in the wall near the front door.
The car's owner said he left the vehicle with the handbrake on before going inside a house in Carlton Street, Blackburn.
The car then rolled backwards down a steep hill before crashing through a hedge and ending up on Mrs Kernot's front lawn at Carlton Gardens.
She said: "I was lying in bed when I just felt the whole place shudder. It was absolutely terrifying. If I'd been outside at the time I wouldn't have stood a chance.
"I have my grandchildren around a lot and they often use this area to play. I'm just so thankful they weren't here today."
Husband Les said: "I've lost count of the number of times cars have gone through our hedge.
"People use this road like a racing track. They use the corner outside the house to reverse and end up mis-judging and crashing through here.
"But we've never had anything like this before. The car hit a wooden post which holds up part of the roof. If that had collapsed then it could have been a lot worse."
A crane was used to remove the car from outside the house.
