MYSTERY surrounds the death of 14 year-old Isabella Stewart found collapsed at her Nelson home only six weeks after her older brother also died.

Members of the tragic Stewart family moved to Nelson following the drugs overdose death of 22-year-old Isaac.

After spending a month in Mosley Street they moved into their new home in Camden Street only two weeks ago. Isabella collapsed and died there early on Friday morning.

She may have taken tablets prescribed to her mother, also called Isabella, for a heart condition, an inquest heard.

Two empty bottles were found in the house. They had been packed up with Mrs Stewart's possessions since the move from Scotland.

Isabella's sister, Mary Bell Mayley, of the same address, said that a friend had promised Isabella a surprise on Thursday and that could have been Ecstasy tablets. But an inquest at Burnley was told that analysis of body samples at Burnley General Hospital had not provided a cause of death. East Lancashire Coroner, David Smith, told the family that the samples had been sent to the toxicology department at Manchester Royal Infirmary where more sophisticated tests would take place.

He adjourned the hearing until the results of those tests are available in three or four weeks.

Mrs Stewart said it was discovered only a year ago that Isabella suffered from asthma. She had two inhalers which she used when necessary but she had never seen her have a violent asthmatic attack.

Mrs Stewart said Isabella was not at school and last Thursday she went to a doctor in Nelson because she had a sore throat.

That evening Isabella seemed fine. She ate well and was drinking a lot of juice something she attributed to her sore throat.

During the night she heard a bang and found Isabella collapsed in the bathroom. Her legs were shaking.

An ambulance arrived and she was told her daughter had died.

Mrs Mayley said Isabella had told her on the Wednesday that someone she knew had promised her a surprise the next day.

"I don't know what that surprise was but it might have been Ecstasy tablets,'' she said.

After the hearing, the family prepared for the move back to Dundee for Isabella's funeral where so recently she had attended the funeral of her brother.
